Cosgard is a broad-spectrum antibacterial and antifungal preservative. It prevents the development of bacteria, yeasts, and molds in water-containing cosmetic products: emulsions (creams, milks), cleansing products (liquid soaps, shower gel, shampoo, etc.), gels, and lotions.
Dosage
0.2 to 1% in rinse-off and leave-on formulations. The higher percentage would be used if your product had a high percentage of water or botanical extracts.
Formulation recommendations
Use between pH 2 and 7
Efficacy may be compromised beyond pH 7
Better compatibility allows the addition of the product virtually anywhere in the manufacturing process
Very soluble in polar organic solvents
Anionic can cause discoloration as well as carbomers and some surfactants
